WHY WE BUILT THIS
Tatreez connects us to Palestine. So does how we build.
Tatreez isn't something to preserve behind glass. It's something you do, passed hand to hand, stitch by stitch.
I spent two years stitching my wedding thobe from grid paper and scattered reference books, because no design tool was made for this practice. By the last stitch, I knew the tool had to be built by the community it's for.
So we build in historic Palestine and across its diaspora, because that's where tatreez lives.
Our team works from Gaza and Ramallah to Tunisia, Seville and Brooklyn. Every motif placed on the canvas connects Palestinians around the world with each other, and with the people on the ground who keep this practice alive.
